HONORS CONSUMER EDUCATION CLASS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

The objective of this course is to challenge a student in a rigorous academic environment.  The student will access, assimilate, and incorporate information to formulate solutions to the economic problems and challenges presented in your everyday life.  The course will give a student a sound understanding of the marketplace and how to function in it as a wise and thoughtful consumer.  Topics include: the global economic system, career development, buying transportation and housing, money management, consumer rights, insurance, banks, and managing your own checking account.  The course is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

 

REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THE COURSE:

 

Attendance                 If you cut a class, you will not be allowed to make up any work, quizzes, or exams. 

 

Homework                  Homework points will be added to each unit score.

 

Unit Exams                 You will be given a 100 point exam after every unit.  If you are absent on the scheduled exam day you can be given a different make-up exam for that unit.

 

Unit Grades                Unit grades will be composed of your chapter homework, chapter quizzes, unit exam, and all related work for a specific unit (participation, and special projects).  The total points will be put into a letter scale which is listed below.

 

Please note:      You will need to have at least a “D” average

on your cumulative Unit Grades in order to pass the course.

 

Grading Scale

                                    A = 90%

                                    B = 80%

                                    C = 70%

                                    D = 60%

                                    F = 59% and lower

 

If you are having any trouble with the course for any reason, please speak with me so we can discuss the issue.  Please do not wait unit the end of a quarter or the end of the semester.

GRADING BREAKDOWN:

 

            Your grade will be the composite of all six units and the final exam.

 

            Quarter Three Percentage                     40%

            Quarter Four Percentage                      40%

            Cumulative Semester Exam                   20%

 

Seniors with a cumulative semester percentage of 90% or higher will be exempt from the cumulative semester exam.
