Frequently Asked Questions

for Mr. Clemens' Science Classes

bullet

Do your plans change? Yes, often. Fate is inexorable. Daily and weekly plans are subject to change as current events and teachable moments take priority in science. You may view general plans for this year by clicking here.

bullet

Are Enrichment, Tests, or Quizzes always listed? Yes, they will be written in the plans if and when they occur, they also subject to change.

bullet

What are tests & Quizzes like? They are much like a lab you would do, they are "performance based". See the Nature of Instruction website for more information on Authentic Assessment.

bullet

Are there study guides given prior to tests and quizzes? Yes. Students are always given a study guide, plan, or strategy for tests.

bullet

What is Enrichment? Here, science homework is an enrichment or an extension of the classroom, not just busy work! Time, concentration, and problem solving is required!

bullet

When are assignments due? Take home assignments (Enrichment) are usually due in two days. Two days gives you 2 days to ask questions and get it right before it is due! Start on them immediately as this provides opportunities to ask questions about it before it is due! For more information, see Doors to Success

bullet

How can I find out my grade? Grades are posted in the classroom and updated on Mondays or the first day of the week. You can also see your grades on the e-school system. If you would like a detailed grade report they can be e-mailed to you upon request.

bullet

What if I am in the HAL class? 7th Grade H.A.L. students follow the 7th Grade Science curriculum; however, the application of this curriculum is differentiated and divaricates daily.

bullet

How are lab partners formed? We use "Partner Clocks" where students have previously selected 12 different students to have as a partner. We never use the same time on the clock twice. It is updated each quarter. We will have more than 12 labs in a quarter, therefore it is likely the student will work with the same partner once we have "rounded the clock". Rarely do we have groups of more than two, and at times students are allowed or asked to complete the lab on their own.

bullet

Fix-It Policy? On many assignments completed individually (those you did all by yourself), you may have an opportunity to "Fix-It"  if you did poorly. You may correct your mistakes for more points.  You may not get full credit, say and A+, but you will get more than if you left it alone with the poor grade. The idea is to learn, not get a bad grade. If you earn a bad grade, and we just move on, nothing is accomplished!  If you would like to "Fix-It" on an individual assignment, please ask. On tests & quizzes you will have to show me proof that you studied prior to the retake. You have a 7 day time limit to "Fix It". See "Doors to Success" for details.
