to 6th Grade German. We have lots
of fun in 6th grade! We learn ABC's, numbers, greetings, simple questions,
days of the week, months, colors, classroom objects, and other topics that my come
up.
Much of what is learned in 6th grade is done orally during class. There
is not a textbook for 6th grade German. I will provide many handouts to
aid the students as well as often show the pronunciation of words. There
will be a homework assignment for nearly each topic that is learned.
We will take a quiz on each topic as well. Some topics will have a written
and oral quiz. At the end of the quarter, each student will take a final
exam that covers all of the topics covered during the quarter. I recommend
that students keep their notes and handouts from throughout the quarter so
that they can study from those sources!
We often play games, try speaking as much German as possible, listen to
German songs, watch parts of films in German, and have a great time doing all of this! While learning the
language we learn about the culture and I share stories from my
experiences of learning German, living in Germany, and visiting German
speaking countries.
At the beginning of 4th Quarter, the students have a big decision to
make. The students need to choose the language that they will study during
7th and 8th Grade. Students stick with the same language during 7th and
8th Grade. The students who are successful at the middle school level
world language will be able to begin taking Level 2 world language
classes at the high school as a freshman.
