Literature class is a place where witches fly, fairies dance, and the average man perseveres. Throughout the year, students will read three classroom novels: The Pigman, A Day No Pigs Would Die, and The Giver. Along with novels, students will be exposed to many diverse short stories. While reading these stories and novels, students will learn to analyze components of stories learning key terms such as: foreshadowing, suspense, framework story, theme, and point of view. Also, students will become familiar with the plot elements which are: exposition, conflict, complications, suspense, climax, falling action, and resolution. Along with fictional stories, students will also be exposed to non-fictional stories. With non-fictional stories, students would learn how to use research skills such as: paraphrasing, outlining, and examining facts. |
