8th Grade Science
Chemistry Final Exam – Review Guide – Second Semester

The second semester final is tentatively set for Wednesday, May 25th. Periodic Table and Reference Sheets will be provided.

Essential Questions

These are the foundation of our chemistry unit.  Answer these questions, focus on key science vocabulary and concepts, apply and use information from the Periodic Table to support the essential questions.

1.    How does the development of the Atomic Theory explain the sub-atomic particles of the atom?

2.    How does the organization of the Periodic Table of Elements explain trends and properties of matter?

3.    How can matter be classified using physical properties?

4.    How does atomic structure affect chemical bonding?

5.    How do chemical reactions alter the composition of matter?

6.    How can matter be classified and c hanged using chemical properties?

7.    How does neutralization explain the interaction between acids and bases?

CHAPTER 3 OBJECTIVES

·         I can understand the development of the structure of the atom from a historical perspective.

·         I can use the Periodic Table of Elements to explain the distribution of sub-atomic particles.

WHAT & HOW DO I STUDY?

v  Time Management - start early using the calendar to plan out how much time and what will you be reviewing when.

v  Look through your notes and old tests making sure all wrong answers are corrected.

v  Skim the chapters, reading over sections you may have missed the first time

v  Read through the chapter Study Guides and Chapter Review sections found at the end of each chapter (These are great summaries of key concepts and main ideas introduced in the chapter.)

v  Be familiar with the formulas you will need to use and the correct labels that go with the formulas.

v  Use the online practice self check quizzes and tests.

v  Use the online practice final.

v  Use this review sheet.

v  Study a little bit every day and don’t wait until the last minute to do it all.

v  Develop a study buddy group of people you trust. You can quiz each other which will help all of you become more comfortable with the material.

v  Schedule at least one meeting time with a study partner or study group. If you absolutely can’t get together, then exchange email addresses. Instant messages will work well, too.
