Dear May Whitney Families,
Thank you for another great week of support of our school. Congratulations to our student showcases at our January All School Meeting. Mrs. Hurt’s 4th grade did an amazing job presenting two Greek Plays. Our 4th and 5th grade orchestra students performed a set of music for us, as well. District Updates:
Joanie's Closet is a service organization which originally started at May Whitney after the untimely passing of our school nurse, Joanie Bednarz. Since then, Joanie's Closet has become a district-wide organization which helps families in need throughout District 95. Joanie's Closet is available to help on several fronts. For example: school supplies are provided for families that need assistance with these items; snacks are provided for school nurses since some of those who go to see the nurse just need to fill an empty stomach; groceries, clothing, household necessities, and gas cards are distributed through the school social workers or nurses for families in dire straits; second lunches are sometimes provided at elementary schools for Free and Reduced Lunch students who are still hungry after finishing their first lunch. How do I ask for help? Contact your school nurse or social worker if your family needs assistance from Joanie’s Closet. Each school has a Joanie's Closet PTO representative. This representative can service requests (anonymously) from the school principal, social worker, or nurse.
Contributions can be sent to Joanie’s Closet, c/o School District 95 Educational Foundation, 400 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Make checks payable to: School District 95 Educational Foundation and indicate Joanie’s Closet in the memo line. Donations are tax deductible and also qualify for corporate matching.

Do you ever wonder why some things work for one child and not the other??
Wouldn’t it be great to feel good after disciplining your child?
If your answer is YES to either of these questions, then you need to come to Parent University and hear what Ellen Belluomini has to say!
Ellen will share her techniques that she has learned as an educator and a therapist over the last twenty years. Ellen has worked with over two thousand students, clients, and individuals at facilitating change within individuals, families, groups and organizations. Ellen also focuses on constructive communications that create transformations on an individual or group level.
Ellen will concentrate on the following topics as they relate to grade school children:
Ø How can you become more aware of your child’s temperament? Ø How does your child’s temperament impact your interactions with them and ultimately their discipline? Ø What types of communication alternatives are available in relation to the various temperament styles? Ø How do different temperament types strengthen family ties? Ø How can positive parenting empower our children to behave well?
Ø
What parenting options are available through positive discipline
that will make the self esteem increase for both parent and child? If this sounds like something that you would like to hear more about, please e-mail Lori Schwartz by February 18th at parentuniversity@yahoo.com to reserve your spot to attend our FREE February 22nd event in the Isaac Fox Cafeteria.
We hope to see you there!
